Police body score PLDT’s off-CCTV cams @SOCCO

The City Police Advisory Council of Dumaguete City president by Dr. Henry A. Sojor has passed a resolution lask week seeking for an explanation from the Philippine Long Distance Telephone (PLDT) as to why certain Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras that were installed around the city are not working.

The worse part is that most CCTV cameras  which  are not working were installed at many “scenes of the crime” incidents and nothing is  recorded. Even major murder incidents.

Acting chief of police PLt Col. Wilfredo Alarcon Jr. told the advisory committee that when his car was bumped near Robinsons Mall by a motorcycle last November 4 of last year, three days before the murder of Dindo Generoso, there was no CCTV footage that he can review beause the signal bogged down.

In the absence of the CCTV footage, Alarcon has to spend P40,000 for the repair of his car.

Alarcon has also confirmed the querry of an advisory council member that only 70% of the CCTV cameras were working during the time when Atty. Rey Moncada was shot and killed inside his residence in Daro. Only a few footages of the riding in tandem suspects is available especially near the crime scene but not in other areas.

To date no case was filed against Moncada’s perpetrators while a case build up continues.

Another concern brought by a department head in Dumaguete  is in the matter of availment of the CCTV footage especially for medico-legal cases because it would be easy to issue statements that the cameras were not working when incidents happened.

Like what happened lately in the Rizal Boulevard area when two prominent persons in the city had a fist fight because of personal reasons.

When they checked the CCTV control room, they were told the cams were off during that time.

Meanwhile, the police says no case has yet been filed against suspects of the Moncada killing while a case build up continues in coordination with the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in the province.

On the Generoso slay, Alarcon said supplemental affidavits will be prepared as soon as additional evidences are uncovered to include the communication between persons involved on that day. He said suspect Teddy Salaw’s cellphone was endorsed to Camp Crame for the failure of the regional anti-cyber crime unit to open the same. (by JUANCHO RODRIGUEZ)
