The New People’s Army (NPA) has claimed responsibility over the ambush of government troops at Barangay Linantuyan, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental, Tuesday, March 3.
Lieutenant Colonel Egberto Dacoscos, commanding officer of the 62nd Infantry Brigade identified victims of the ambush as members of the Alpha Company of the 94th Infantry Battalion.
Dacoscos said the troops were only conducting Community Support Program when an improvised explosive device exploded, injuring four soldiers.
A 10 minute firefight ensued between government forces and the NPA. The Injured soldiers are out of harms way and are now recuperating.
The NPA Leonardo Panaligan Command of Central Negros Guerrilla Front released a statement on Wednesday, March 4, 2020, claiming responsibility of the attack on an army patrol in Guihulngan.
Ka Ann Jacinto, deputy spokesperson of NPA Central Command said they ambushed at least 10 members of the 62nd IB onboard a truck.
Jacinto alleged that two government soldiers were fatally wounded, which the Philippine Army denied.
NPA said the ambush was a retaliation “against massive militarization and killings in the countryside.”
Jacinto also condemen the killing of two of their members in an earlier encounter at Barangay Binobohan, Guihulngan City, Feb. 28, 2020.
“They were brutally tortured before they were killed,” Jacinto alleged. The PA denied the allegation. – Ryan J. Sorote
