NEGROS ORIENTAL – The 22-year old son of 3rd Dist. Rep. Arnulfo Teves Jr., Kurt Teves, is the new Liga ng mga Barangays Provincial Federation President as he ran unopposed in Thursday’s election along with the other officers of the association.
Malabugas, Bayawan Punong Barangay and now ex-officio member of the S a n g g u n i a n g Panlalawigan Kurt Matthew T. Teves garnered 22 votes out of the 25 ABC federation presidents all over the province while his Vice President Tanjay City federation president Segfredo O. Buagas had 21 votes. The auditor, Charlito F. Yupo, federation president of Bacong, garnered 22 votes.
The board of directors also run unopposed. They are: Chona A. Agustino of Ayungon; Dionie P. Amores of Dumaguete City; Edgar Z. Teves Jr. of Valencia; Jonah Pat L. Aviles of Zamboanguita; Lucille L. Credo of Dauin; and Teogenes M. Banaybanay of Sibulan.
In an interview, 3rd Dist. Rep. Teves said history repeats itself because this was his position before he was elected as congressman in which he ran unopposed. He told his son, Kurt, to be at par with what he did or to do better than him. He also said that the new liga provincial federation president is very good in governance as well as business.
For his part, Board Member Kurt Teves said he will try his best to do better than his father with the help of all the barangays in the province. Whatever his father may have not fulfilled to do when he was ABC provincial liga president Kurt said he will do it during his time. He promised to consult with the officers of the liga for whatever projects they would want to implement.
Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo congratulated all the winners in the Liga elections and expressed hope they are driven by the desire to help and cooperate with the provincial government’s efforts towards development.
Vice Gov. Eduard Mark Macias said whoever are the winners in the SK and Liga elections are all welcome and that he looks forward to working with them. He said that the provincial board is not in any way involved in the election of the provincial Liga federation. “Don’t use being young as an excuse not to perform,” Vice Gov. Macias advised the SK and the ABC provincial federation presidents.
