CENTRAL Visayas has a total of 10 health care workers who are positive for the coronavirus disease (Covid-19), as of Saturday, May 16, 2020.
Of the number, two are medical technologists, two are doctors and six are nurses.
Bernadas said the medical technologists arrived in Cebu on Monday morning, May 11. The doctor, on the other hand, arrived in Cebu from Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental on Sunday night, May 10.
Zuasola said not all of the cases are hospital-acquired infections, pointing out that some are community- acquired.
“Basically, there are most likely four hospital-acquired cases. The other one could be hospital-acquired and could be community-acquired,” he said in a mix of Cebuano and English.
The medical technologists, meanwhile, are suspected to be community-acquired infections.
In its update as of 8 a.m. Sunday, May 17, the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) said 53 of its health care workers are on quarantine.
One of the nurses works for a private hospital in Cebu. Three of the nurses manifest mild symptoms while the rest are asymptomatic.
Meanwhile, nurse number six is an emergency room nurse in a private hospital. The nurse, though, lives in an area with clustering of Covid-19 positive cases.
Gerardo Aquino Jr., VSMMC chief, earlier said their frontliners wear the proper PPE and get checked regularly.
