An optometrist has accused a policeman, his neighbor in Sibulan, of attempted murder. Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office Deputy Director Supt. Alet Virtucio said that Dr. Wilson Tan, who survived the shooting incident in Barangay Boloc-Boloc, Wednesday, claimed that P02 Virgilio Giducos was the alleged perpetrator of the foiled slay try.
The victim based his accusation on the familiar voice he supposedly heard moments after he was shot. The doctor remains in the hospital and under security. But Giducos claimed he was in Cebu City even when the alleged shooting incident occurred following up on his application for promotion.
He was ordered to return home by his superiors to face the investigation. It was learned that the doctor and the policeman, who are neighbors have deep-seated grudges. It remains to be seen if formal charges will be filed by the victim against the lawman.
Meanwhile, the Chief-of-Police of Bayawan City has decided to resign from his position in an apparent admission of his failure to eliminate the illegal numbers game suertres. The Philippine National Police has indicated its sincere intention to defeat suertres and underscored its seriousness by ousting some of its officers believed to be inefficient in its performance.
Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office Director Sr. Supt. Edward Carranza announced that he respected the decision of Sr. Insp. Teddy Picardal and will soon assign a new Chief-of-Police as soon as Mayor Rene Gaudiel chooses from among the five PNP officers submitted for his consideration to replace Picardal.
