“A man isn’t poor if he can still laugh.”
– Raymond Hitchcook
Ecclesiastes (3:1.4) clearly states-“There is
a time for everything under heaven… a
time to weep and a time to laugh… We,
Filipinos, are generally known as a happy
people. We are fond of laughter and
amusements as shown in our merrymakings in fiestas and celebrations.
When we were
young, our family used to
see American entertaining
movies where the famous
Bob Hope, Danny Kaye,
and Red Skelton were the
star actors. These top comedians
could certainly make
us laugh with their superb
artics. A lot of Pinoys,
young and old, would flock
to the movie when Dolphy
the “King of Comedy”
would be the leading actor.
Filipinos would appreciate
speakers who ably could deliver
hearty jokes in their
talk.
Now, what is humor?
The Internet defines humor
as the tendency for the particular
human perception as
expression to provide laughter
and amusement. It is the
pleasant feeling that brings
comfort and satisfaction.
The essence of humor is
human kindliness (Stephen
Leacock). Humor is the
kindly contemplation of the
incongruities of life and its
artistic impression. We have
to use humor as an expression
of tolerance, understanding
and forgiveness.
Reader’s Digest says
that “Laughter is the best
Medicine.” This statement
has been proven correct by
a number of people in this
world who believe in the
healing power of laughter. A
certain American Dr. Fry
has called laughter “stationary
jogger.” He said, “There
is hardly a system in the
body that a hearty laugh
doesn’t stimulate.” Norman
Cousins, the former editor
of Saturday Review, believes
that this recovery
from a deadly form of a spinal
arthritis is cured not only
by massive doses of vitamin C but also by a tremendous
amount of laughter everyday!
The world famous
Bernard McFadden wrote
the “Laugh Cure” that
laughter is a form of stationary
exercise that is so beneficial
to one’s health.
Psychosocial authorities
have long regarded
laughter as a sign of mental
health. They also have a
long list of laughter benefits
which include a greater release
of endorphins and
other hormones which affect
positively the brain, relax
muscle systems, increase circulation
and lower blood
pressure. Laughter has no
known negative effects.
We have to discover
spirituality in the joke. God
must have a great sense of
humor. After all, He created
us with a lot of “funny
bones.”
Let someone tickle
your ribs to have a good
laugh..!
