NPC gubernatorial bet Gary Teves
welcomes the government’s move to
upgrade night landing operations in eight airports nationwide including the one here in Dumaguete.
Teves said that apart from decongesting the NAIA, upgrading the airports’ navigational facilities and enabling these to handle evening flights would bring in more tourists and attract more investors.
Teves said that the move would also be a great boost to Negros Oriental as this would create more jobs for Negrenses and generate more income for the province.
The upgrading of the night landing operations is also consistent with Teves’ vision of Negros Oriental as a major tourism hub of Central Visayas.
The Department of Transport and Communications and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines already released an invitation to bid last April 19 for the supply contract of Php434.5 million worth of airport equipment.
A pre-bid conference is scheduled on May 6, while opening of bids will take place on June 5.
DOTC and the CAAP noted the need for this upgrade in the airports’ night landing capabilities in line with the swiftly expanding airline and tourism industries.
