The City Government of Dumaguete, through the City
Tourism Office, will kick off the Santacruzan Festival
on Friday with the Mass celebration at the Cathedral.
Maquiling said the City Tourism Office and Council have
prepared a series of events that would set the town abuzz with excitement to atttract tourists and visitors to come
and be a part of the celebration.
At the same time, these activities will be interspersed
with religious events at the Church, especially novena
masses which will be sponsored by city government
offices.
Maquiling said this year’s Santacruzan Festival, with the
theme “A Celebration of Virtues,” will be filled with activities
for the whole month of May.
The highlighted activities are:
May 5, 7:00 p.m. - Inter-Barangay Search for Singing Idol
at the Quezon Park
May 5 to 6 - Department of Foreign Affairs Mobile
Passporting at Robinson’s Place
May 7, 4:30 p.m. - opening of National Heritage Month at
the Robinson’s Place
May 12, 7:00 p.m. - Inter-Barangay Dance Competition at
the Quezon Park
May 20, 8:00 a.m. - Santacruzan Kayak Festival
May 25, 2:00 p.m. - Heritage Month Indigenous Cultural
Show at Robinson’s Place
May 25, 5:00 p.m. - inauguration of Dumaguete City Port
Island Signage, Kasikas and Festival of Lights Display at the
Boulevard
May 26, 3:00 p.m. - Santacruzan Parade and Streetdance
May 26, 5:00 p.m. – Grand Festival Showdown and
Philippine National Games Opening at the Macias Sports
Complex
May 26, 7:30 p.m. – Kapuso Night at the Quezon Park
May 31 - Santacruzan Grand Procession
Maquiling is inviting the residents in the city, as well
as neighboring cities and municipalities in Negros
Oriental, to take part in the Santacruzan Festival.
“We are at present working on this year’s Santacruzan to
be a big event based on the sharing of creative ideas between
church and state, lending talent, time and effort to each other,
which in the end, will mean a grand but meaningful celebration
of this time-honored Filipino festival,” Maquiling added.
