Six faculty members from NUSA UTARA State Polytechnic in Indonesia vi
ited Silliman University on November 19 to 21 to explore opportunities of
academic partnership.
Headed by its director, Prof. Siegfred Berhimpon, the group gave a courtesy call on Silliman Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Betsy Joy B. Tan. They also had a series of meetings with heads of their prospective counterparts.
A memorandum of understanding was one of the items discussed to be drawn up, covering common interests in faculty and student exchange and collaboration in research and related programs.
Together with Professor Berhimpon during his visit were Dr. Frans Ijong, Mr. Jery Mandeno, Mr. Alfrianus Papuas, Mrs. Nurseha Djafaar and Mrs. Ella Israel.
‘Writing from the Heart’
The Embassy of the United States of America in Manila is sponsoring a creative writing workshop for selected students from around Dumaguete City on
November 27 to 29 at the Sidlakang Negros Conference Hall.
Dubbed "Writing from the Heart", the three-day workshop forms part of the ongoing workshop series of the Edilberto and Edith Tiempo Creative Writing Center of Silliman University.
Facilitating the workshop is acclaimed novelist, poet, and playwright Mr. Tony Perez.
Mr. Perez is one of the 100 Filipino recipients of the 1898-1998 Centennial Artists Awards of the Cultural Center of the Philippines.
The workshop is co-sponsored by the Province of Negros Oriental and done in coordination with Foundation University, Negros Oriental State University and St. Paul University Dumaguete.
CAS Dean heads Asian faculty group
College of Arts and Sciences Dean Dr. Margaret Helen Udarbe-Alvarez was
elected president of the Asian Christian Faculty Fellowship (ACFF)-Philippines during its 6th Biennial Conference held recently at Silliman University.
ACFF-Philippines, organized in 2003, is a member of the ACFF Federation that also has chapter organizations in Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Myanmar, South Korea, Taiwan and Thailand.
Also elected during the third day’s business meeting were Dr. Elena R. Catalo of The University of Asia (Vice President), Dr. Rose Merlyn M. Jubilo of Union Christian College (UCC; Secretary), Prof. Allen V. Del Carmen of University of St. La Salle (Treasurer), Dr. Gloria Q. Resurreccion of UCC as Auditor, Prof. Juliana Moonette S. Manrique of St. Scholastica’s College (PRO), and as Board Members: Prof. Noemi S. Sayson of Philippine Christian University and Dr. Earl Jude Paul Cleope and Atty. Myles Nicholas Bejar from Silliman. Fr. Francis Xavier R. Salcedo of De la Salle University serves as Ex-Officio.
Citation tickets for SU violators
The Office of Student Affairs issued a campus advisory informing students and
personnel of a set of guidelines that will govern the issuance of citations for
parking violations on campus.
This development is a reinforcement of the University's policy on parking which was implemented last school year. The same policy employed color coding in the allocation of parking slots on campus.
To be implemented this second semester of School Year 2012-2013, the guidelines put order in the parking of the increasing number of vehicles on campus and help prevent loss of and damage to property. They also seek to promote environment-friendly practices, including walking and biking, in moving around the campus.
