The Dept of Science & Technology, invites the public to witness
the STARBOOKS launching, awarding, MOU signing, and
training on April 17, 2013 at 8:00-4:00 pm at the DOST provincial S & T Center Conference Room, #24 Yakal St. Daro, Dumaguete City. Registration is free.
STARBOOKS stands for S&T Academic and Research-Based Openly-Operated Kiosks. Thus, A STARBOOK is a stand-alone library portal that is intended to provide the public with free access to digital S&T information materials (e.g. theses and dissertations) for academic and livelihood uses. It consists of a pod, a computer server, a printer, and a UPS (uninterruptible power supply). It does not require Internet connectivity but has to be maintained by an IT specialist. (Please refer to the accompanying primer and tentative program for additional information.)
The STARBOOKS project is an initiative of DOST’s Science and Technology Information Institute (STII). The STARBOOKS technology is available for transfer to interested parties. For Negros Oriental, three (3) STARBOOKS will be turned over to the Dumaguete City Public Library, the Mabinay LGU, and the Bayawan City LGU during the awarding on April 17, 2013. (ATTY. (GILBERT R.
