Dengue
victims may be penalized in town
This time, being sick with Dengue can yet be punishable by law.
For fear that the dreaded viral disease known as dengue will severely
affect the
growing economic activity of this town, local legislators had
come up with an ordinance that will penalize individuals and those
responsible persons
in various places caught having stagnant ponds or receptacles
that may contain
water which might start the dengue menace in this town and or
its vicinity.
So if you’re sick with dengue and it is found out that
you have a stagnant water pond in your house premises, then you
as dengue victim, will be penalized.
This is the first time being sick could be punishable by law.
And it’s only in Valencia.
Under Ordinance No. 13-2005 known as the Anti- Dengue Ordinance,
it declares
unlawful for every home owner, resident or any person having authority
to have in their premises any stagnant ponds or receptacles.
This covers, aside from the households, schools , restaurants,
stores, public markets, day care and health centers Other areas
covered by the ordinance are cemeteries, churches/chapels, public
and private offices, parks, public playgrounds, pen spaces and
transport facilities.
Degnue fever is a viral disease transmitted by the bite of infected
female aedes mosquitoes of the species egypti and albopictus which
breed in clear stagnant waters.
ayor Rodolfo Gonzlaes to ensure compliance with the ordinance
has deputized the municipal health officer and the barangay leaders
authorizing them to monitor and inspect at any time the residents,
establishments and offices.
To further strengthen the campaign, Mayor Gonzales bared that
he is also in the process of creating a task force.
The mayor also has task the information office, health and agriculture
offices including the Liga ng mga Barangay to massively conduct
an information drive. (ELOPEZ)
