Advisory to GSIS Members

Dear Editor:

• As of Saturday, January 14, 2006, the Government Service Insurance System has completed the release of P1 billion in regular dividends for the year 2004 to all
qualified GSIS members through the eCard. • To check the status of your eCard accounts online (via the internet), members may register by calling the toll-free hotlines nationwide at 1-800-10888-4747. In Metro Manila, the hotline is 810-4747.

• The eCard is a debit card. Once your dividends are credited, members may use the eCard to purchase groceries and other items in major supermarkets and all
accredited establishments that accept VISA cards. No need to withdraw from the ATMs.

• For those withdrawing from the ATMs, we recommend transacting with Megalink member banks, since we are experiencing connection problems with other ATM networks at the moment.

• For those who wish to withdraw over the counter, Union Bank branches have xtended their office hours to serve the needs of GSIS eCard holders.

• Disbursement of benefits via the eCard is one of the many efforts of your GSIS to improve its services. We apologize for any inconvenience our members may have experienced. (Sgd. Mrs. Annabelle Q. Escorial, Division Chief, Frontline Services Division & Officer In Charge, Office of the Branch Manager)

GSIS defends System

Dear Editor:
A llow us to asperse the latitude of communication thru your column to clear up the ambiguity cast on the mandate of GSIS as a social insurance institution. All obligations due to our members in return for the contributions paid to the system has been legally complied with at the most appropriate time possible without delay. And this is our reply to a mysterious letter writer from Canlaon City who wanted to publicly announce her concerns about her insurance claim with GSIS, Dumaguete.
On the issue of a funeral claim filed for the death of her husband who died months after the receipt of the retirement benefit , we cannot possibly verify if we do not have the NAME of the member. However we dared to trace our records on funeral benefits paid four months ago up to the present but only to find out that there is no claim left unpaid specially coming from CANLAON CITY which we believe is the permanent residence of the letter writer.
On the alleged delay of payment of claims, there are installed processes to follow. Even if computerization is fully operationalized still we need documents like death certificate of the member, pensioner or retiree issued by the NSO, Funeral Expense Affidavit and Marriage contract to establish the legitimacy of payment. So non-submission will defer the payment and the cause of delay is not attributed to slow processing time.
We also observe first-come-firstserved basis and we do not allow third parties to follow up and our phone is open for inquiries except during line disconnection. Walk in members and claimants are advised to get queuing numbers before they can be attended by our Members Assistance Officers. We encourage our client-members to prepare extra copies for us to acknowledge the receipt of the documents and it is assured that the MAOs are held accountable for the loss of any documents.
There is one claimant in the person of Mrs. Ramoncita Senador from Canlaon City who applied for a reconsideration of her husband’s disability retirement application after being paid on his regular retirement under RA 8291 with the option of 18 months cash payment but died last October 2005 but did not file a burial benefit claim. For the requirements on the disability application it was only in January , 2006 that she submitted on a piece meal exactly the same date of the letter of the unknown writer.
The documents were all forwarded to our Vice President, Medical Department for further evaluation. If she is the letter sender, then all her allegations are unfounded and if not then we invite the concerned unknown letter sender to visit our office to resolve the issues.
We hope to have shared our views and large sums of disbursements for claims is not a mediocre kind of job.
