Dialysis
machines donated; Great Physician inaugurated
Many good deeds are done quietly by Civic
Organizations in our city and province; it is good to recognize
and be inspired
by the good works of the many generous and enthusiastic
persons and organizations helping our community
by way of this CIVIC CIRCLE Corner.
Recently Dr. EZ “Boy” Benemerito, a 2005 Negrense
Awardee who pioneered the vision of establishing the Dialysis
Center at the Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital,
was in Dumaguete for a personal visit. He also brought
medical equipment and supplies for the La Libertad Rural Health Center. He was welcomed by the members of the
Rotary Club of Dumaguete, the local club that partnered
with Dr. Benemerito’s Rotary Club of Port St. Lucie in
setting up the Dialysis Center. Pictures show the NOPH
medical staff and patients in the Dialysis room and Rotary
club members with Dr. Boy Benemerito.
A new addition to Dumaguete’s program for children
is the Great Physician Rehabilitation Center located in S L
Teves Subdivision, Calindagan. The Center inauguration
and blessing on January 16, 2006 was attended by no less
than the Norwegian Ambassador, his Excellency Ambassador Stohle Torstein Risa with our Governor Arnaiz and
Mayor Perdices.
The Center is called The Great Physician Rehabilitation
Center (GPRC) in honor of the Great Physician himself. This
children’s rehabilitation center is funded by the Norwegian
Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD) and the
Norwegian Disabled Care Foundation (NDCF).
At the moment, they are working with 48 children with
various disabilities like cerebral palsy, down syndrome, autism,
mental retardation and learning disability. The Center is
staffed with an occupational therapist, a physical therapist,
and a special education teacher.
Meanwhile, if anyone wants to share a short article or
picture of any good deed, feel free to email me at
fromhappylady@hotmail.com or mail it to The NEGROS
CHRONICLE, Dumaguete City 6200.
Happy Sunday!
