Vigilante behind shooting
of suspected drug lord?
Unless proven otherwise, the Dumaguete City Philippine National Police
thinks the dreaded vigilante group calling itself the equalizers is behind
the shooting to death of yet another police character. The victim
Magtanggol Liu Jr., who was shot several times on Monday (August
18) by unidentified motorcycle riding men at the corner of Aldecoa Street
and North National Highway, had been implicated in the illegal drugs
trade as its financier. His violent death followed after the slaying of a
businessman recently also by motorcycle riding assailants.
Apparently, he suffered the fate
of his father Magtanggo Sr. and
brother Dandan Liu. The two were
also assassinated but their deaths
have remained unsolved by the police.
Recovered from the crime scene
were 15 spent shells and three deformed
slugs from a 9mm pistol.
Dumaguete City Chief of Police Supt.
Leopoldo Cabanag opined that the manner
of Magtanggol’s killing carried out by
the two suspects was vigilante style.
Cabanag has already formed a task force
to speed up the resolution of the two latest
city shooting incidents.
Cash, valuables lost to
fast food chain thieves Better heed this caveat: Don’t leave your things unattended. Two customers
of two popular city fast food chains were bitterly reminded of this
warning when they lost their cash and valuables to thieves in two separate
incidents. Columbia Bacalso of San Jose Village, Banilad, Dumaguete
City lost her bag along with her cellular phone, cash and other important
documents placed inside it while she was sitting inside a popular food
chain store along Perdices Street, Wednesday afternoon.
The next day, another lady was
robbed of her bag containing two
mobile phones, credit cards, undetermined
cash in Philippine and Hongkong
denominations inside an equally popular
down town fast food chain. In both incidents
the suspects are males and in their
40’s.
Chronicle stands by
laptop robbery story Jeffrey Duran, a former medical representative, who was implicated in
the robbery of three lap top computers as alleged by the victim Svein
Helge Groedem of Norway strongly denied that he was the suspect of
the August 13 robbery.
On the other hand, the supposed
Norwegian victim said that “it is a
mystery that there are two named
suspects for this crime because from
our side they are not suspects at all.”
However, the Chronicle gathered
from the police that the two mentioned suspects
were indeed identified by the Norwegian
as stated in the blotter bearing entry
No. 215 on August 13 at 8:20 in the
morning as recorded by PO3 Ricky
Dacotdacot. The Chronicle stands by its
story based on police records.
