Burglars ransacked the rented house of a 40-year-old American national and his wife of cash and undetermined amount of jewelry in Mangnao, Dumaguete City, recently.
Victims Joseph Eugene Hefner and Filipina wife Flora Mae, tenants of Piñero Subdivision, claim they lost P 6,000.00, three Nokia cellular phones and three pieces of rings studded-with diamond stones. They learned of the robbery at about 5:00 AM and believed that the suspects gained entrance by scaling the fence and forcibly opening the sliding door of the house.
Meanwhile, two more victims reported losing their cash and valuables inside their homes in Mangnao and Piapi. Engelbert Bernet of Mangnao and Jose M. Manuel of Piapi lost their lap top computers and three cellular phones to still unknown suspects who forcibly got their way inside their abodes.

Mangnao is not the same as when I first left there in 1982. Such is the prize for advancement. More subdivision, more businesses, more transient people. Original people of dear Mangnao, please take care and look after yourselves. The government cannot do it all for you. Just take precautions, take your own initiatives, be aware of people strange to you. There is no such thing anymore as “be hospitable” to strangers. Gone were the days either when Dumaguete was a city of gentle people, radio DYRM’s motto. May God protect you always.
