CRITICAL REPORTING
by: ELY P. DEJARESCO
Local and national candidates are now starting to form alliances as the election season goes on high gear at the official start of the campaign period: 90 days for national bets and 45 days for congressional and local bets. That would be Feb. 10 and March 26, respectively.
Well, Gov. Dodo Macias will go NoyNoy since his younger challenger Petit Baldado, the incumbent vice governor, is the pet of Manny Villar. But his vice guv tandem Tuting is going NoyNoy. Unsa gud ni!
Here is the latest rub: Macias, who is apparently paranoid against the Teveses, pulls out his son Erwin from the political lineup of Chiquitting Sagarbarria and Rommel Erames because Dodo believes blood is thicker than water and Sagar has a Teves blood. Grandson of Teves patriarch Meniong, who is Dandan Teves-Leon plus George Villamor, both in the Sagar lineup, are Teves protégées. Dodo believes that son Erwin might be junked in the last minute on election week. And as a shrewd seasoned politician, Dodo’s mind is thinking ahead. Maybe based on experience. Of course, Sagar and company denies this, and will continue to support Erwin, come what may. He said the city slate has nothing to do with the Meniong-Dodo patriarchial political feud. Hello!
They say this election spells the doom or bloom of the Macias or Teves clans. If Erwin and Dodo will win, this will mean their bloom, but if they lose, it could be their political gloom. Dodo wants to retire as congressman in the third district. That is why he is posting people there now. That’s thinking ahead. If the Teves boys win in the third district, then that will block Macias’ dreams of retiring like his father Macy, as third district kingpin. Battle of political wits this is.
The city Woodrow-Myrish tandem is going Noynoy, of course under Ipe Remollo as the LP coordinator. For the NP, the coordinator is businessman Nilo Tam who would rather work for Villar on the big picture rather than in smalltime Tanjay. VM independent Alan Cordova still has faith that the city who elected him councilor will make him vice mayor this time. That’s quite some principle.
POSSIBLE?
There is this wild talk that GMA might secretly support Villar for the presidency, should Gibo’s ratings not improve. In turn, Villar, if he wins, will support GMA to become speaker of the House of Representatives and immunize her from prosecution if any. Unless there is a charter change, then the prime ministership is the target. Possible? Why Not?
Remember in politics, there are no permanent allies, only permanent INTERESTS. And WINNING is more important than just running. Have a nice weekend, gentle People!
