Two re-electionist mayors in the second and third district are most likely running unopposed next year which observers attribute to their satisfactory performances in office and a weak local opposition.
Neophyte Zamboanguita Mayor Kit Adanza, who ran after her mother who succumbed to cancer in 2007 is believed to get a fresh mandate for his second term with much ease. However, there are talks that a powerful politician has been busy forming a group that will mount a challenge against the young mayor although it can only be confirmed after the official filing of Certificate of Candidacy ends on Tuesday.
Amlan Mayor Bentham De la Cruz, his vice-mayor Tan and members of the municipal council are also perceived to be cruising to an easy victory with no known serious contenders in sight.
Kit Adanza’s father, Board Member Marcelo Adanza claims that as a mayor his son is his own man. In fact, there are certain issues which the elder Adanza, who served as mayor of the same town, would have taken a different approach than what his son Kit prefers.
“Kit has his own way of doing things, but during crises he always makes it a point to consult us. As his father, I am proud that the townsfolk are appreciative of his work.,” said the elder Adanza.
De la Cruz and his party mates in the Nationalist People’s Coalition filed their Certificates of Candidacy yesterday.
They vowed to campaign for the re-election of 2nd District Rep. George Arnaiz (NPC), who is ranged against Bais City Mayor Hector “Tata” Villanueva of the Liberal Party.
