Same faces … yup! “Game na!”

As early as Friday, and on to December 1, there will be a continuous pouring of applicants who will file their certificates of candidacies for elective positions, even as the bulk will appear on the last day, —— as it was in the beginning.

Fact is, from top to bottom, the SAME (nauseating) faces are practically running this coming election except for a significant few. So what else is new? If we look at the old faces, they already know how to win : kiss babies, attend fiestas, coerce the enemy, and buy votes. For the new comers who want change, they will stick to their principles of carrying reforms the honest way. And the winners will be: those who will buy votes. BUT —-

But, IF THE PEOPLE THEMSELVES CHANGE, meaning, if the voters’ VALUES will change , as many have already changed in the inside, they will receive the money and vote according to their choice. That is moving towards political maturity. We believe, we are moving towards that direction. But we have not yet arrived.

This election should be the last of the multi party system. We are moving back to the two party system, as evidenced by the exodus of members of one declining party towards two major old political parties.

The multi party system is a Marcos creation, designed to show a semblance of freedom and democracy. But actually, this method is designed to divide the opposition, thus assure the administration of victory. It did not work. Instead, we keep on electing a corrupt administration. We have been electing by political plurality, not by democratic majority. The result is more dissent. The winning party became the minority. We have to scrap the multi party system once it is time to amend the Constitution.

We love to see Dumaguete’s fielding of new faces in the city council. As a result, the traditional faces might face the biggest surprise of their lives. It now depends, then, on how politically mature are the people of Dumaguete. If some candidates intimidated and even sued their critics with vindictiveness in the past, they will lose in this election.

Finally, we all know who will become political tyrants once elected. These wolves usually sport sheep’s skin during elections, in order to deceive their prey-voters. So voters: be wary and wise, if you want freedom after elections, choose the qualified, the young, the worker and doer, not just the thinker, and most of all, the Christian candidate who walks his talk.

If you do, you are doing yourself a favor, and your own community. If you don’t, you will have three years of misery, criminality, and poverty, under a corrupt, lazy, ignorant, and irrelevant brand of governance.

It should not be difficult then, to choose the right leaders, if you use these gauge as your guide.
