If re-elected for another term, neophyte Congressmen George Arnaiz (2nd District) and Prye Henry Teves ( 3rd District) are expected to renew their bid of creating the town of Tamlang ostensibly to enhance the delivery of basic services in the remote area and win the people to the government side.
Arnaiz admitted that they cannot push for their objective at this point in time when almost all elected officials are pre-occupied with the 2010 presidential elections.
Besides, the issue requires further and careful deliberations as mayors of the towns of Sibulan, Valencia, Siaton and Sta. Catalina where the proposed Tamlang town will be carved out appeared to be apprehensive fearing that a significant size of their territories will be lost.
A reduction in the size of a local government unit will have an impact on its share in the Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA), which uses land area of the LGU as one of the bases in computing its IRA share from the national government.
However, Arnaiz explains that the move will ultimately redound to the benefit of the people since the affected towns will have lesser number of constituents to serve and will enhance government attention for residents in Tamlang Valley.
