NOW that we are enjoying a flowering of technological development, we need to realize more deeply that the quantum leap in that area calls for a matching quantum leap in our sense of purpose. Otherwise we would get what is tantamount to an overdose.

I think such assertion is commonsensical. Yet we ignore it, mainly because the so-called overdose is not so much painful as it is euphoric. The danger is not immediately felt and seen. It can hide behind many rationalizations and justifications.

Personally, I have made the choice not to hook our house up to cable television. My kids think we are the Beverly Hillbillies. Before they discovered oil. I have made this “radical” decision for two reasons. First, because I do not want many of those cable programs available to my children.

Allow me this time to share with you the Pro-Life stand on incorporating sex education in the DepEd education system.

PRO-LIFE Philippines Foundation, Inc. is deeply saddened and extremely concerned of the decision of the Department of Education (DepEd) to integrate in our primary and secondary educational system a course on sex education.

From what we read, a novel academic campaign featuring videos and sessions encouraging the use of contraceptives and showing situations involving decision-making over committing sexual intercourse is being pilot tested in less than 30 public schools nationwide among students as young as 11.

The apostolic constitution of Pope Leo XIII on 17 September 1902 is one of the most important documents in Philippine Church history.

Known in Latin as Quae Mari Sinico, it lays down the roadmap for the Catholic Church under the government of the United States.

Its introduction continues in this manner: “And that the strength of ecclesiastical discipline might not suffer detriment there from, careful measures were at once taken to inquire into the means and measures to be taken under the new state of affairs.”

Recently, soon after the Gregory Peck died, Dr. Robert Schuller spoke to his congregation at the Cathedral in Garden, Groves, California.

Dr. Schuller showed a brief video of his last conversation with Peck in the actor’s log cabin. Dr. Schuller asked Pecked to read his favorite passage in the Bible. He read in his deep baritone voice the chapter of love in I Corinthians 13. By the way, there is consensus that Gregory Peck was one of the finest specimens of Christian manhood in Hollywood.

In the conversation between the preached and the actor, Schuller asked Pecked what he felt faith is. Peck answered: “It is believing in the power of God in tough times.”

IN today’s world, we need to have this combination of traits. We need to be tolerant to the ever growing variety and plurality of ideas, lifestyles and cultures. At the same time, we should avoid getting lost and be clear of where we are heading.

Our usual problem is that we tend toward the opposite—we are intolerant and inflexible to the different elements cropping up in our society, as well as vague and clueless as to what our goals are. The result can only be disaster.

When you surrender to Christ, you surrender to the most creative and dynamic Person on this or any other planet. You begin to be alive with his life, enlightened with his light, loving with his love. You have surrendered to creativity.

Loyalty is what God offers and expects it in return. For even when we are “faithless, he remains faithful.”

One of the most heart-breaking stories in the Gospels is the story of Peter’s denial of Jesus. As we all know, Peter was the closest disciple of Jesus, and the most articulate, as far as his pledge of loyalty to him was concerned. Remember that he said to our Lord that he would never deny him, and Jesus predicted: “Before the cock crows, you will deny me thrice.” Which came true.

Let me share with you the Official Statement of Pro-Life Philippines Foundation, Inc. on the issue of legalizing abortion.

Abortion does not protect women’s rights; rather, it violates the right to life of all. WE ARE disgusted by the recent pleas of some socalled women’s rights advocates pushing for legalized abortion in the country (Center for Reproductive Rights recent publication) It is utterly a complete abomination to safeguarding human life. This call is UNACCEPTABLE. Induced abortion is the deliberate termination of the life of an innocent human being and therefore, it is a CRIME! They are oblivious of the fact that abortion is the culprit of all the statistics they are boasting of, ergo, abortion should be eradicated not propagated. How unfathomable it is that these lobbyists brainwash our minds with the unethical idea of compromising the life of the unborn!

That is how Pope Leo XIII opened his apostolic constitution for the Catholic Church in the Philippines on 17 September 1902. Meaning in English “For A Perpetual Memorial”, the apostolic letter carries the heading Quae Mari Sinico.

The following is the introduction as published by Philippinia Sacra (2010) of the University of Santo Tomas: “The islands that lie scattered over the wide expanse of the China Sea and the Pacific Ocean, and called after Philip II, King of Spain, the Philippines, were scarcely discovered by Hernando Magellan at the dawn of the sixteenth century, when they not only became consecrated to God by the planting of the holy Cross on their shores, but in that very act received the principles of the Catholic faith.

WE need to cultivate this culture. I mean, to cultivate it with a sense of urgency, of having to make up for lost time. We have been remiss of this fundamental aspect of our life, and look at what we are having now. We are increasingly estranged from God.

Adoration is the primal attitude we ought to have, if we want to remain faithful and true to our identity not only as God’s creatures but also as God’s children. This is what our Catechism affirms— “Adoration is the first attitude of man acknowledging that he is a creature before his Creator.
